$571K Energy Rebate Credited at Purchase for Gavita LEDs in WA State

Seinergy helped deliver $571,000 in rebate funds from Puget Sound Energy (PSE), on behalf of a Washington State cannabis grower, offsetting the price of fixtures by 30%.

In 2021, the Olympia, WA grower was retrofitting a recently-acquired facility. They wanted to invest in quality equipment that would last, save on operating costs, and reduce environmental impacts. Their top choice was Gavita LED fixtures. However, the upfront cost of nearly $1.5 million was a barrier.

Luckily, Gavita (owned by Hawthorne Garden Company) works with Seinergy to procure indoor horticultural rebates for its customers. Seinergy worked with PSE to secure the grower’s rebate for lighting and high efficiency Quest dehumidifiers. This allowed the grower to get up and running as quickly as possible. They also reduced their request for higher amperage services from PSE due to the efficiency of equipment.

In addition, through creative collaboration Seinergy and Hawthorne were able to leverage the utility rebate as a line of credit through a distribution partner. In other words, the grower purchased the equipment without fronting the full cost, which is normally required when receiving commercial rebates. This saved the grower over a half-million dollars in upfront cash. Although this type of transaction is a benefit to any business, it is especially significant in the cannabis industry where traditional financial lending options are unavailable.  This rebate advance is only possible when a rebate professional can manage the process and ensure a smooth transaction with predictable dollar amounts. It also requires a dependable and generous energy efficiency incentive program, like the one offered by Puget Sound Energy.
